Asaba 2018 AAC: Stephen Keshi stadium ready for test run July 18

By Ben Efe
Delta State government is in a race to get the facilities of the Stephen Keshi Stadium ready on time, for the African Athletics Championships billed for Asaba, the State capital in August.
The Stadium project abandoned for many years, is beginning to come to light. And based on calculations by Delta state government officials and the Local Organizing Committee for the  Championships, by June all facilities will be ready for use and the Stadium will be test run on July 18, when Asaba hosts the maiden African golden league series.
“All the base work has been done. It is just to do the final fittings and lay the tracks. All the equipment have been paid for,” said a top official of the LOC yesterday.
“Hopefully, we are going to test run the Stadium with the African Diamond League on July 18. Asaba has been chosen as one of the hosting cities for the continental meet.”
To ensure a successful championships, the Federal government is said to have budgeted funds to aid the Delta State government. It was gathered that provisions have been made for funds in the 2018 budget and there is a letter to that effect.
“Delta is equal to the task even though we need all the funds we can get. The State has hosted championships like this before and this one will meet all expectations,” added the official.
