Fresh crisis rocks Delta APC as party ‘suspends’ Deputy Chair, seven others

*It is null and void – Embattled Deputy Chair
Fresh crisis rocks Delta APC as party ‘suspends’ Deputy Chair, seven othersAll Progressive Congress
Perez Brisibe
A fresh crisis is currently brewing in the Delta State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, as the party says it has allegedly suspended its Deputy Chairman, Elvis Ayomanor for reasons the party said contravenes its constitution including acts of gross misconduct.
The party in a statement by its publicity secretary, Sylvester Imonina, also suspended six other members including the Vice Chairman of the party for Delta South senatorial district, Tosan Awani and the state woman leader, Mrs. Janet Oyubu.
Others are the chairmen of the party in Okpe, Uvwie, Oshimili South, Oshimili North and Ukwuani local government areas of the state.
The move is coming just as the Deputy Vice Chairman, Tuesday while speaking on behalf of the suspended party chieftains described it as “null and void” adding that it is only the State Working Committee, SWC which has not met since the 2019 general elections that can take a resolution on such issues and forward to the national body.

However, the party’s SWC according to the statement made available to Vanguard on Monday night, also announced the immediate replacement of the suspended party officials with eight persons including Moses Ogodo who is now the Deputy Chairman of the party in the state and Anne Agoda who is the State woman leader of the party.
Others are: Valentine Egbe who is now the Vice Chairman of the party for Delta South senatorial district while Edafe Emakpor, Dennis Okorogben, Dr. Obi Esumai, Hon. Ozo Njoagwuani and Anthony Agam are now the party’s chairmen for Okpe, Uvwie, Oshimili South, Oshimili North and Ukuwuani local government areas of the state.
Accusing the chairman of the party in the state, Jones Erue of operating from his bedroom to suspend them, Elvis said: “I have not been suspended, cannot be suspended and no any individual can suspend me by virtue of our constitution.
“Only the SWC can meet, take a resolution on that and forward to the national body and the SWC has never met since after the elections of 2019 as a result of his (Jones) inability to lead the party because he is scared that if he does that, the SWC will suspend him because he is inefficient, lacks political-administrative acumen and a minus to APC in Delta State.
“He is just writing from his bedroom with a few individuals working with him just to cause confusion for the party as it is obvious that he has been paid by the PDP in the state to destroy the party and that is what he is doing.
“He is working with the publicity secretary, the legal adviser, the Delta Central and Delta North chairmen of the party and treasurer who are all parties to this rubbish out of a total of 17 in the SWC making the 6 of them working with him a minority and lacking in the power to do anything, hence, the chairman lacks the power to do that making the suspension null and void.
“We will declare whatever they are doing null and void as it is of no effect as 6 cannot be more than 12 and cannot take decision on behalf of the SWC which has never met after the 2019 elections.”

Arrest Oshiomhole now, Obaseki tells IGP, DSS

ObasekiGodwin Obaseki
By Omeiza Ajayi
Edo State Governor, Mr Godwin Obaseki has asked the Inspector General of Police, IGP Muhammed Adamu and the Director-General, Department of State Services, Yusuf Bichi to arrest the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole for holding political rallies in the state in spite of the ban placed on such activities by his Administration.
Obaseki spoke through his deputy, Comrade Philip Shuaibu on Monday in Abuja said a petition to that effect would be submitted to the relevant authorities later in the day.

According to him, the party’s national chairman should be arrested for inciting violence in the state, adding that since Oshiomhole cannot go and hold an APC rally in an APC controlled state without the consent of the sitting governor, he cannot also hold same in Edo without the approval of Gov. Obaseki.
He said; “I am in Abuja to meet with the IG. I have a petition to the IG and to the Director of DSS to the effect that Comrade Adams Oshiomhole is arrested by the Police and be arrested by the DSS for the breakdown of law and order that he has consistently perpetrated in Edo state. We banned rallies, the IG in a letter also suspended rallies. He disobeyed the orders of the state government, he disobeyed the orders of the IG and feels that he is above the law.
“For us, we have officially come now to drop our petition with the IG to the effect that Oshiomhole is not above the law, he should be arrested for violating the state government’s order. He was a governor before and he knows that nobody violated his orders as governor, because it is not about him, it is about the state. When everybody disobeys laws, then the country becomes the Banana Republic, God forbids. And that is why we are saying that the IG and the DG of DSS should arrest him and interrogate him for breaching the peace and disobeying government orders and security orders for rallies. So, for us, when the suspended national chairman of the party continually disobeys the law, when opposition party chairmen do same, he becomes a reference point, so that is why I am here on behalf of the state government to submit a petition to the IG to the effect that the suspended chairman, Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole be arrested and prosecuted for breaching the peace of Edo state”, he added.
The state government also replied allegations that the governor was planning to eliminate the national chairman, saying on the contrary, it was Oshiomhole who once boasted of controlling an infantry.
Not leaving APC
On allegations that the governor was planning to destroy the APC so that he can leave with his supporters for the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Shuaibu said; “To where? We are not leaving APC. The governor and I are not leaving APC. Why are we leaving APC? That statement has been coming on and on. I can categorically tell you that the governor of Edo State, Godwin Obaseki and I are in APC and we are not leaving APC. The party is stronger today because of the governor of Edo state and when we read such things on social media, what we just say is that this is another fake news. We are not leaving APC. APC is our party. We formed it and we are solidly on the ground to promote good governance and the governor is doing very well.
“Some people are saying because of the endorsement by the PDP and some individuals, that is a sign that we are leaving the party. No. They should read it the other way. That is a sign that even other parties are accepting and agreeing to the fact that the governor of Edo state is working and he should be emulated and that is why he is having the endorsements. This is the first time the APC and non-APC people are endorsing the governor and I think it should be a pride to everybody. So, when you talk about leaving the party, it is just one of those guys trying to create a problem”, Shuaibu added.
He also dismissed the notion that he betrayed his political leader, Comrade Oshiomhole, saying both of them still have a father-son relationship.
He said; “The issue of betrayal is relative. Whoever has said I betrayed Oshiomhole, I don’t know what they meant by that. Oshiomhole remains my father and I remain his son although presently we are on different pages politically and it is bound to happen. It doesn’t change the fact that he remains my father and it doesn’t change the fact that I remain his son but what is critical is that we have disagreed on the issue of the governor of Edo state. I am supporting Gov. Oshiomhole because he has not changed what we believe in. He has not deviated from what Comrade Adams Aliyu Oshiomhole started and the foundation he laid. We promised during the electioneering that we were going to build on it and that we will take what he did to the next level and that is exactly what the governor of Edo state is doing. What Oshiomhole has seen that is different, I do not know but as for me and my household and my supporters, we remain committed to the governor. As per politics can, we are not on the same page but as a family, he remains my father”.
Contacted for reaction, Chief Press Secretary to the APC National Chairman, Mr Simon Ebegbulem declined comments.

Receive Ize-Iyamu with open hands, APC chieftain urges Obaseki

Edo govt condemns political violence, use of explosives, other dangerous weaponsGodwin Obaseki
Dr Blessing Agbomhere, a chieftain of All Progressives Party (APC) in Edo, has urged Gov. Godwin Obaseki to receive former governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Osagie Ize-Iyamu who defected to APC with open hands.
Agbomhere, who is also a former governorship aspirant of APC in Edo, gave the advice in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja.
NAN reports that few months ago, Ize-Iyamu, and his supporters defected to the APC which resulted in a crisis in the state’s chapter of the party.
Agbomhere, who urged Obaseki to exhibit maturity, said Obaseki’s ability to win opponent to his side made him a good leader.

“Ize-Iyamu choses to come and join the party, Obaseki should receive him with open hands.
“You see why I still blame Obaseki’s administration on leadership. Whether we like it or not who will take Nigeria and the state out of where we are now is a matured and visionary leader.
“Your ability to win your opponent to your side makes you a good leader,’’ Agbomhere said.
According to him, in this case, the governor of the state has both the stick and carrot. He has power and he is also well positioned.
“And how will a man have all these instruments and he will be scared whether he will win a primary or not,’’ he said.
The party’s chieftain recalled that when the former governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, contested for a reelection, he had confidence to win both party’s ticket and governorship election.
“Oshiomhole was confident about the primary that he never really bothered to campaign but all he was doing was working for Edo people, believing his work will speak for him during the primary.
“And today we have a governor who is scared about primary. I think he is the one distracting himself, nobody is distracting him,’’ he said.
He maintained that Obaseki should be glad to receive, Ize-Iyamu and those who were willing to join the party.
“The truth of the matter is that Osagie Ize-Iyamu is a good man, good politician, strategist and everybody in Edo likes him,” he said.

Rivers Gov’t denies sealing off of NLC secretariat over minimum wage

Rivers Gov't denies sealing off of NLC secretariat over minimum wage
By Davies Iheamnachor – Port Harcourt
The Rivers State Government has denied the reports that it sealed the premises of the state chapter of Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, over the perceived misunderstanding it had with the labour union in respect of the new national minimum wage.
The NLC had resumed work yesterday to see that its state Secretariat has been sealed off by an arm of the state government.
Recall that the Chairperson of NLC in the state, Beatrice Itubo, had in a statement said the union would not tolerate acts of nonchalance against the union by the state as regards its welfare, noting that the government did not pay the sum agreed in the new minimum wage.

However, the State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Pastor Paulinus Nsirim, had expressed regrets over the statement credited to NLC, noting that the union has shown it is a political party.
But, the Special Projects  & Head Bureau for Special Projects, who claimed responsibility for the action, noting that the sealing off was to allow for integrity test on the building.
Special Adviser to the governor on Special Projects and Head Bureau for Special Projects, George-Kelly, D.A said: “The attention of the Bureau for Special Projects have been drawn to a frivolous news milling the rounds that the NLC secretariat was sealed as a result of minimum wage-related issues.  This is not only untrue but also a calculated attempt at misleading the public against the genuine intentions of the government.
“As you may be aware, the NLC structure which was built pro bono by the Rivers State Government for Labour was completed and commissioned only a few months ago by the Bureau and it is our normal practice to carry out general inspections and structural integrity evaluation or tests before the expiration of the defects liability period.
“It is this activity that precedes the release of the 5% retention fees due to any contractor 6 months or 1 year upon practical completion of the project. This is not new to every contractor or client in the construction industry.

“In this case, however, the contractor himself reported to the Bureau a structural defect which must be immediately fixed to avoid further deterioration/risks of incidents. The Bureau had to act expeditiously by giving him the go-ahead to conduct a thorough structural integrity evaluation in liaison with the Bureau’s in-house consultants; and of course, this can only be done by first sealing off the place, because the place can not be in use while the exercise is on.”
He said it would be uncharitable and ungrateful for NLC to misconstrue the exercise for a product of an imagined imbroglio between labour and government, describing it as sad.

LG crisis: One dead, 8 injured as PDP, APC members clash in Oyo

LG crisis: One dead, 8 injured as PDP, APC members clash in Oyo
Ola Ajayi – Ibadan
The crisis between members of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party and All Progressives Congress over the control of local government areas in Oyo State, deepened as one person was reportedly killed while about eight others were seriously injured in violence that erupted at Ogbomoso town.
While the melee lasted, an eyewitness told Vanguard that several dangerous weapons were used.
It was gathered that the person that was killed was a member of the PDP from Surulere Local Government.
Before the fracas broke out, one of the chairmen put in place by the last administration, Mr Olamiju Alao Akala from Ogbomoso North (APC) had earlier claimed he was attacked by hoodlums believed to be supporters of the opposition.
Olamiju, who is the son of a former governor in the state, said, “I was coming from a guest house around YOACO area of Ogbomoso when I was ambushed by the over 50 thugs around 11 p.m. The attack took place very close to our council secretariat”

“I had to pass the front of the LG, I was attacked by PDP thugs and they tried to machete me but my driver was quick to manoeuvre so the cutlass hit my side of the door, then they chased and attacked the back too,” he added.
He was said to have reported at Owode Police Station before he went back to his office.
He said, “I am a man of peace but the PDP must not take my peaceful nature for foolishness and timidity. It’s high time we jettisoned political brigandage. This is the 21st century and we must embrace politics of development.”
When Vanguard called the State Police Public Relations, SP Gbenga Fadeyi, he said he would call his men in Ogbomoso to know the details.

Chief Uwaoma who is also the Coordinator of Camp Hope Campaign Organization, in Egwuedo Atta Njaba community during the Imo governorship electioneering campaign also called on Governor Uzodinma, to redeem the battered image of his party in the state with good governance.
The community and market leader also told Senator Uzodinma to ensure that no part of the state is left behind in his administration, just as to beware of sycophants who will like to derail his administration.
He commended the PDP and other party defectors, saying their action was in the interest of the state, but advised them never to expect any financial inducement from the Governor but should continue to show patriotism to state.
“We believe that what the defectors have in mind is to work for the people of the state and not to expect any financial settlement from Governor Uzodinma for their action.
“The people of Imo State are not expecting them to have a personal financial interest in their minds for their action, if you have defected, we believe it is for the interest of your constituency and the state and not for personal financial settlements or enrichment.

“While I congratulating, Senator Uzodinma for his victory at the Supreme Court, I must advise that he must surprise the people of the state with good administration.
“He should not expect total support now, from Imo people, but will rather win their total support with good administration that will clean up the maladministration of his APC predecessor.”
“Under Senator Rochas Okorocha, people, including the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshomhole, believe that APC government in Imo State was a disappointment, this is the time to correct the mistakes of the past government of APC”
