With only a few days to the 2018 Access Bank/Lagos City Marathon, organisers and sports journalists  yesterday discussed how best to give coverage to the event.
L-R: General Manager, Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Mr. Yusuf Ali, Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor on Sports, Mr. Adeyinka Adeboye and Senior Brand Manager, Seven-Up Bottling Company Plc, Mr. Segun Ogunleye at a Media Seminar on the Marathon in Lagos refreshed by Aquafina and 7Up..Yesterday.
This is against the background of the numerous complaints by sports journalists in the coverage of previous races in 2016 and 2017. The organisers, aiming to deliver a world standard event in line with global practices have promised to make the marathon race which is in its third year, a worthwhile event.
Speakers at the session held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium yesterday include Lagos State Sports Council chairman, Mr. Kweku Tandoh, general manager of the Access Bank/Lagos City marathon, Yusuf Alli and veteran sports journalist and Group Sports Editor of Vanguard Media, Tony Ubani.
“There are so many things we have taken for granted in the past. These things are not tenable in world marathons and we must have to follow standards,” Alli stated
Mr. Tandoh urged journalists to report positively on all aspects of the race.
“The marathon goes beyond the event. Lagos State wants a positive image from the event and only journalists could best propagate the message.”
