A grand total of 288 footballers, 72 coaches, more than 300 volunteers and hundreds of fans of the 18 teams participating in LaLiga Genuine were involved in the second round of the competition this weekend in Tarragona. The Athletic Club Foundation and CF Reus topped the Fair Play table, while RCD Espanyol, CA Osasuna, and Real Sociedad took plaudits for winning all their matches.
This exciting weekend was notable for the footballing values on display and the camaraderie and teamwork between all involved, with good cheer reigning among players, coaches and fans alike. The fans, as well as the players, showed exemplary behaviour during every match.
Another highlight of this Second Round was the Tu media cara (The other half of your face) exhibition, a project which the LaLiga Foundation was keen to include as a means of creating awareness of functional diversity. All the LaLiga Genuine participants got involved in this initiative, which aims to harness art, photography and drawing to break down the barriers and prejudices which surround disability.
Luis Gil, LaLiga’s competition director; Josep Maria Andreu, the Nastic club president; Olga de la Fuente, the director of the LaLiga Foundation; and Carles Navarro, the president of BASF Española, were in charge of handing out the awards and medals to the LaLiga Genuine participants. Gil thanked all the participants for their great effort and fair play shown in the competition and encouraged them to be equally enthusiastic for the next round, which will take place on 13, 14 and 15 April 2018 in Majorca.
