Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa.As part of efforts to forge a common front to fight injustice, insecurity and discuss issues that would improve the well being of its people, Ijaw traditional rulers and leaders from the six states of Bayelsa, Edo, Delta, Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Ondo yesterday met in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital.
The meeting, which was declared open by Governor Seriake Dickson, also focused on the issue of reconciliation, unity, peace, stability and economic progress of the Ijaw nation
Dickson called on them to put aside their differences and forge a strong united front, submitting this is the only way to make the Ijaw nation relevant among other ethnic nationalities in the country.
He said the time has come for Ijaw traditional rulers, elders and leaders to constitute a strong, credible, dependable and fearless leadership for the Ijaw National Congress (INC).
A statement from the Government House signed by Fidelis Soriwei, quoted Dickson as saying his call was inspired by the realisation that certain key roles in the interest of the Ijaw nation could be undertaken and indeed spearheaded by a strong leadership of the INC, noting that the absence of this meant the existence of a vacuum, which was inimical to the development of the Ijaw nation and the Niger Delta.
