The Yobe State Government has presented 20 Toyota Hilux vehicles to the Nigeria Army, as part of its efforts in fighting the Boko Haram insurgency.
Governor Ibrahim Gaidam who handed over the vehicles to the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant-General Tukur Buratai, said the gesture was part of his administration’s commitment to boosting the environmental security in his state.
“It is the responsibility of every responsible government to do this and I want to assure you that we will not relent in this struggle until peace is restored completely,” he said.
He added, “Today’s presentation brings to over three hundred vehicles we have so far presented to various security agencies and this is done in recognition of our desired and commitment to restore peace in our troubled communities.”
While praising the soldiers for effectively waging war against the terrorist group, Gaidam assured the COAS of his support in restoring normalcy to the troubled region.
Buratai on his part explained that his visit to the state was to appraise the fight against terrorism.
While thanking the state’s Chief Executive, he promised that the vehicles would be used for the purpose for which they were purchased.
He said, “We are in the state to work towards the completion part of the fight against insurgency in the northeast,” the Chief of Army staff said.
“I wish to thank you immensely for this relentless gesture and I also assure you that we will use the vehicles for the purpose intended.”
The Chief of Army Staff then handed over the 20 Hilux vehicles to the theatre commander, Major General Nicolas Rogers, for distribution to the various army formations in need across the state.
