Samuel OrtomBenue State Governor Samuel Ortom has called on the Federal Government to collaborate with states to adopt ranching as the lawfully-recognised method of rearing livestock in the country to end frequent crises between herdsmen and farmers.
Ortom stated this yesterday at the NKST Church Gbem, Vandeikya Local Council of the state, during a thanksgiving service to mark the retirement of the Chief Judge of Benue State, Justice Iorhemen Hwande.
He said that the best solution to incessant clashes between herdsmen and farmers, which often results to loss of lives and property, is through ranching.
The governor, while commending Benue people for their peaceful disposition and support to the enactment and implementation of the Open Grazing Prohibition and Ranches Establishment Law, charged them to always report breaches of the law to security agents.
He described Justice Hwande as a great, humble and committed jurist who brought dignity to the Bar in the state and had positively impacted many lives.
