The Fire Service Department, Kuje Area Council, FCT, has warned residents in the area against indiscriminate bush–burning during the dry season.
Mr Dabo Abayomi, the Fire Service Officer gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kuje on Saturday.
Abayomi said the warning became necessary to prevent cases of fire incidents which usually occurred during the harmattan period.
He, however, noted that the department had recorded low fire incidents in the area due to its intensive sensitisation campaign.
“Properties worth millions were lost during two major fire outbreaks in Kuje market due to negligence and illegal electrical connections.
“What normally causes fire is peoples’ insistence on clearing bushes around them with fire as well as hunting expedition by hunters.
“We are almost at the peak of harmattan where cases of fire incidents are high; we urge residents to be mindful of bush burning.
