Wike Wrestling Challenge Cup: Lack of funds threaten Team Delta’s medal hopes

The hopes of Delta State wrestlers of winning medals at the Governor Nyesom Wike National Wrestling Challenge Cup which holds in Port Harcourt, Rivers State is in jeopardy due to lack of funds, NationSport has been informed.
A source in the camp of the team revealed that the athletes were ready to fight for the state, but the Delta State Sports Commission has failed to provide necessary funds for the trip.
“We have trained individually, we have presented letters from the Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) to the Delta State Sports Commission and we look forward to the Commission to make provisions for us in terms of vehicle for transportation to Rivers State and money for welfare. But they told us there is no money.
“They agreed to provide vehicle for the trip, but told us we are going to take responsibility fueling the vehicle and pay the driver. That is how the Commission wants to help us and we have agreed.
“We (the wrestlers) are ready for the tournament.
