The Federal Government has absolved itself of the rising poverty level in Nigeria.
The Minister of State for Budget and National planning, Clem Agba, blamed state governors for the rate of poverty ravaging Nigerians.
Agba noted that the government’s social investment plan had not made much impact due to the inability of governors to work with the Federal Government.
Speaking with journalists in Abuja on Wednesday, Agba accused governors of executing bogus projects, rather than improving the lives of people in their states.
He said, “Governors focus on building gigantic projects such as flyovers, airports etc that are visible in the state capitals, rather than building roads that would halt post harvest losses for the farmers.”
He lamented that governors have failed to take advantage of lands and invest in agriculture.
The Minister urged Nigerians to hold governors responsible for the level of poverty in the country.
