The State High Court sitting in Rivers has adjourned a suit filed by the National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr Uche Secondus.
In the suit, Mr is Secondus is challenging the inclusion of his name on the list of alleged looters by the Federal Government and demanding N1.5 billion for damages.
At the resumed hearing of the case on Monday, T.D. Agbe who is the counsel to the Federal Government as well as the Minister of Information and Culture, Mr Lai Mohammed, filed in a motion challenging the jurisdiction of the court to hear the matter.
But counsel to Secondus, Emeka Etiaba, accused the defendants of preying on technicalities having failed to file a defence four months since the case was instituted.
The presiding judge, Justice Iyayi Laminikara, after listening to both parties adjourned the matter till to October 8.
The government had released two lists of those who allegedly looted the nation’s resources on March 30 and April 1 respectively.
In the first list, the PDP National Chairman was alleged to have received the sum of N200million from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) on February 19, 2015.
Secondus, who has since denied the allegation, had demanded a retraction of the list, a public apology, in addition to the N1.5billion compensation.
He had also threatened to sue the minister if his demands were not met before a stipulated period of time.
Having failed to meet the demand, the PDP National Chairman had made good his threat and filed a suit at a court in Rivers against the minister for defamation of character.
But Mohammed had noted that he was not disturbed by the suit and that no amount of threat would prevent the government from releasing more names of alleged looters.
