The National Judicial Council has recommended 14 candidates to President Bola Tinubu for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court.
The council disclosed this in a statement signed by its Deputy Director of Information, Kemi Babalola-Ogedengbe, on Thursday, noting that the decision was made during its 110th meeting, held on January 13 and 14, 2026.
“Council at its 110th meeting, presided over by the Honourable Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, GCON, resolved to recommend to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, 14 names of successful candidates for appointment as judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement read.
The NJC explained that the recommendations were initially delayed due to the unavailability of security reports on the candidates. The council resolved to wait for the submission of the reports before forwarding the nominees’ names to the President. With the security clearances now received, the NJC proceeded with the recommendations.
“Having received the security report, with no adverse comments on any of the recommended candidates, Council, today, the 22nd day of January 2026, forwarded the names of the following candidates to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for appointment as Judges of the Federal High Court,” the statement added.
The recommended candidates are: Suleiman Hassan, Muhammad Saidu, Igboko Conchita, Onuegbu Angela, Galumje Edingah, Ibrahim Eneabo, Abubakar Usman, and Salihu Yunusa.
Others include Ikpeme Bassey, Shehu Adamu, Mohammed Buba, Eigege-Binjin Judith, Usoro Uduak, and Nwoye Donatus.
Last week, the NJC similarly recommended the Presiding Justice of the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, Justice Joseph Oyewole, for appointment as a Justice of the Supreme Court, alongside 35 others for various judicial offices nationwide, following what the council described as a rigorous screening of shortlisted candidates.
