The Lagos State Government has seized 70 commercial motorcycles during a routine clean-up enforcement across major restricted routes on the Island axis of the state.
According to a X statement on Thursday by the Ministry of Transportation, signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the operation was carried out on Wednesday, and began at about 9:30am.
The statement said the exercise covered “Falomo Underbridge, Marina, Coastal Road, Ajah Roundabout, Ogombo, Igboefon, Abraham Adesanya Junction, and 2nd Rainbow.”
It added that the enforcement focused on “the highway ban on commercial motorcycles, street trading, illegal parking, unapproved bus stops, and other activities disrupting public safety.”
The ministry disclosed that “seventy (70) motorcycles were confiscated, restoring calm, order, and free traffic flow.”
On the fate of the seized motorcycles, the statement said “all seized motorcycles will be forfeited to the state through the courts in line with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018.”
The ministry thanked residents for their cooperation, noting that it “works to keep Lagos moving safely and smoothly.”
PUNCH Online had reported that Lagos State Taskforce intensified enforcement against illegal commercial motorcycle (okada) operations, impounding 134 motorcycles during coordinated operations across key corridors of Lagos State.
Enforcement teams covered strategic locations including Obalende, Falomo Underbridge, Coastal Road, CMS Roundabout on Lagos Island, 2nd Rainbow, Mile 2 Bridge, Five Star, Ladipo Bus Stop and Cele Bus Stop along the Oshodi–Apapa Expressway.
