Edo pledges support for fire victims

The Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, announced on Thursday that the state government would provide necessary assistance to victims of the fire incident in Jattu, Etsako West Local Government Area, describing the event as unfortunate.

In a press statement issued by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Fred Itua, it was revealed that the fire, which occurred on January 21, 2025, destroyed shops and goods in the community.

Quoting the governor, the statement noted that Okpebholo expressed condolences to those affected by the disaster.

The government, in collaboration with the fire service, the emergency management agency, and the local government council, will assess the extent of the damage and provide immediate relief.

The statement reads: “Governor Monday Okpebholo is deeply saddened and concerned by the devastating fire incident that occurred in the Jattu community, which destroyed shops and goods on January 21, 2025. This incident in Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State is a tragic event.

“This disaster has caused significant damage to property and livelihoods. Governor Okpebholo extends his heartfelt sympathies to all those affected and assures them that the state government is committed to providing the necessary assistance.

“The governor is working closely with relevant agencies, including the fire service, the emergency management agency, and the local government council, to assess the extent of the damage and provide immediate relief. Governor Okpebholo urges all citizens to remain calm and cooperate with the authorities as they work to address this situation.
