A’ Court verdict: Ogun LP hails Abure, calls for reconciliation

The Ogun State chapter of the Labour Party has called on the National Chairman, Julius Abure, to leverage his recent victory at the Appeal Court to unite all factions within the party.

The Appeal Court had earlier reaffirmed Abure as the party’s National Chairman, a judgment the Ogun State chapter described as a collective victory for the party and a testament to truth, fairness, and justice.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tokunbo Peters, the party commended Abure for his commitment to upholding the party’s ideals and constitution despite recent challenges.

The statement noted, “The entire leadership and members of the Labour Party in Ogun State have absolute trust in the ability, competence, and capacity of Abure to lead the party to greater heights. His unwavering dedication to the unity, growth, and progress of the party is highly inspiring.”

The party urged Abure to forgive those who attempted to usurp his position and extend an olive branch to foster reconciliation.

It emphasised the need for a united front as the party prepares for the 2027 elections.

“As a matter of urgency, a fence-mending meeting must be convened between the Abure-led National Working Committee, Peter Obi, and Dr. Alex Otti to close ranks and chart a way forward for the party,” the statement read.

The Ogun Labour Party lamented the divisions that have plagued the party, noting that the crisis had caused significant setbacks.

“Already, the party has suffered a lot of division and lost so much mileage due to the undemocratic attempt to remove Barrister Abure from office,” the statement continued.

The party stressed that the time had come to unify its ranks to achieve its mission of rescuing Nigerians from hunger, poverty, and bad governance.

“It is now time to unify the party for the purpose of rescuing Nigerians from the shackles of hunger, poverty, and bad governance,” the statement concluded.
