Delta police rescue three kidnapped victims, recover gun

Three kidnapped victims have been rescued alive by operatives of the Delta State Police Command.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the victims (names withheld) aged 40 years, 54 years and 49 years respectively, were rescued unhurt and have been reunited with their families.

Police sources said that the incident was recorded on New Year’s eve, at about 0120 hours, while the operatives attached to Orerokpe Division were on visibility patrol duty along Warri/Sapele road by Okuvo and Egborede Communities.

The policemen reportedly sighted some persons being dragged into the bush and, as they suspected that these people might have been kidnapped, the operatives trailed them into the bush.

But the hoodlums, upon realizing that the policemen were closing in on them, opened fire on the team, while the operatives equally responded.

Consequently, the hoodlums who could not withstand the firepower of the security operatives abandoned the victims and escaped.

The police public relations officer (PPRO) for Delta State Command, DSP Bright Edafe, while confirming the incident stated that the kidnapped victims were thus rescued unhurt and have since been reunited with their families.

The PPRO stated that the manhunt for the fleeing suspects is ongoing.

In another development,  on December 29, 2022, while police operatives attached to ‘A’ Division, Warri were on stop and search duty at the front of the Daudu police outpost, Kpesu community Warri, they sighted a tricycle driving against traffic.

In an attempt to stop them, the suspects dangerously manoeuvred the tricycle and escaped, but in the process, a black handbag fell from the tricycle.

The police spokesman stated that upon searching the bag, one locally made cut-to-size pistol was recovered.

He disclosed that efforts were being intensified to arrest the fleeing suspects.
