Fans will support Ten Hag over Ronaldo – Carragher

Liverpool legend and Sky Sports Commentator, Jamie Carragher, has said that Manchester United fans will support the Red Devil’s coach, Erik Ten Hag over Christiano Ronaldo.

Reacting to a snippet of Ronaldo’s interview with Piers Morgan that surfaced on social media on Sunday night, Carragher, who wrote on Twitter, said Ronaldo handled the situation “badly” adding that 99 percent of the fans would be on Ten Hag’s side.

In the explosive interview, Ronaldo had said he would never respect Ten Hag because the Dutchman does not respect him. He also alleged that both Ten Hag and some senior executives in the club attempted to force him out in the summer.

The five time Ballon d’Or winner, further said that he felt betrayed by the club.

Adding that there had been no improvement in the club since Sir Alex Ferguson left, Ronaldo said, “I don’t know what’s going on but since Sir Alex Ferguson left I saw no evolution in the club, the progress was zero.

“I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United.

“But you have some things inside that don’t help (us) reach the top level as (Manchester) City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal…a club with this dimension should be top of the tree in my opinion and they are not unfortunately.”

Reacting to the interview, Carragher said Ronaldo claimed that Ten Hag doesn’t respect him, but he (Ronaldo) had also disrespected the coach on more than one occasion.

Carragher tweeted, “Ronaldo ‘I don’t respect the manager’.

“Ronaldo under Erik Ten Hag: Announced he wanted to leave, refused to come on as a substitute, walked off the bench & left before the game had finished. 99% of United fans will be on the side of Erik Ten Hag, which shows how badly Ronaldo has handled this.”

Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford in August 2021 from Juventus.

His first spell at United had been a glorious one under the tutelage of Alex Ferguson, winning three Premier League titles, the Champions League and the first of his Ballon d’Or crowns as the best player in the world.

Despite his 24 goals in all competitions last season, United endured a terrible campaign as they finished sixth in the Premier League and failed to qualify for the Champions League.

Ronaldo then reportedly tried to engineer an exit before the start of this season, but no agreement could be found with another club.
