Kano CAN recommends stiffer penalty for vote buying

• Declares 72-Hour Concert For Fair, Credible Polls In 2019
Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Kano Chapter, Rev. Adeyemo Adeolu Samuel, has advocated grievous punishment for any politician found guilty of buying votes or inducing electorate in any form, with unlawful intent of securing their votes.
Adeyemo, who spoke yesterday, at a convention organised by the Church Must Vote Nigeria, canvassed stiffer punishment and enactment of special laws to disqualify politicians found guilty of buying votes.
He reminded those offering to sell their votes of potential consequences, saying: “ They are mortgaging the destiny of Nigeria’s greatness”.
The convener of Church Must Vote Nigeria, Ikechukwu Mnor, said the convention was to encourage young people to participate in the democratic system.
In a related development, CAN has declared November 18 to 20, 2018 as days of “non-stop praise to God” for Divine intervention in the 2019 general elections and other challenges facing the country.
The 72-hour concert is to be organised in all churches.
In a statement yesterday, in Abuja, acting General Secretary of CAN, Joseph Daramola, said the programme was to “celebrate the envisaged victory Nigeria is going to experience over economic, security challenges, social, religious and political problems we are facing as a nation.
