courtIt was a rich display of the cultural heritage of the Ojoto community of Anambra State at the weekend when members of the community resident in Lagos hosted their traditional ruler, Igwe Gerald Mbamalu and one of their illustrious sons, Justice Obiora Egwuatu.
The event, which took place in Okota to commemorate Mbamalu’s ascension to the throne on April 1, 2018 as Eze Ojoto 111 and Justice Egwuatu’s elevation to the Supreme Court on June 25, 2018, attracted government officials, traditional rulers, Ojoto sons and daughters across the country as well as the entire Igbo community in Lagos.
According to the chairman, Ojoto Akanasato Development Union (OADU), Mr. Charles Okoye, the ceremony was organised to appreciate their meritorious work and services to Ojoto in particular and humanity in general, as well as celebrate them for the heights attained.
“Today, we celebrate our leaders who have made us proud. Igwe Gerald Obunadike Mbamalu, Eze Oranyelu 1 and the Eze Ojoto 111, who served the union for over nine years before his coronation and Justice Egwuatu for his brilliant commitment and diligence as a legal officer. He has always offered legal services on pro bono basis to all who called for his assistance,” he said.
In his response, Mbamalu said he would continue to improve the lots of the Ojoto people and promote development that will positively affect the living standards of members of the community.
The monarch declared his readiness to listen and learn from the constructive ideas of his people, which will ultimately translate into development of the community.
He further called for the assistance of government and citizens of the community towards the community’s infrastructural development, especially roads, noting that it will soon be December when many people would return home to celebrate the Yuletide.
Ewuato thanked members of the community for the honour and charged them to continue to maintain harmonious coexistence and be law-abiding.
