The registration for the 2018 Zainab Saleh International Female Open Karate Championship will kick off on Thursday, August 30. The 2018 Zainab Saleh International Female Open Karate Championship run by former Technical Director of the Lagos State Karate Association, Zainab Saleh is in its fifth year. According to Saleh, the registration will begin on August 30 and will close on Sunday, October 14. The championship proper will kick off from Friday, October 26 to Sunday, October 28 at the Molade Okoya-Thomas Indoor Hall of the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos. “The competition, which is the fifth in the series since 2014 when the first edition was held, is open to female karatekas in the senior and junior cadres,”  Saleh said.The senior and junior cadres will both have nine weight categories. In the senior cadre, which is for those who are 18 and above, there are the individual Kumite -50kg, – 55kg, -61kg, -68kg and +68kg. In the junior cadre, which is for those aged between 16 and 17, there are individual Kumite -48kg, -53kg, -59kg and +59kg.“As the karate sport is set to make its first appearance at the Olympic Games at Tokyo 2020, more competitions are required,” Selah added.  “This is to ensure that practitioners in Nigeria find avenues to improve themselves ahead of the big unveil. “But for the female practitioners, a dearth of major competitions means they cannot adequately gauge their skills.
