Oyo town. PHOTO: FlickrIndigenes of Ogbomosho in Oyo State, yesterday protested against the stoppage of work on the Ogbomosho-Oyo road.
They appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari, and the Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Raji Fasola, to expedite action on the construction.
The protesters urged the Federal Government to declare a state of emergency on the road, which is a section of the Ibadan-Ilorin expressway.
They threatened to embark on a massive protest, if the road is not completed by August 1, 2018.
The indigenes said fixing the roads would save the road users from the many dangers on the one-way lane.
Head of Churches in Ogbomosho, Dr. Isreal Olaniyan, who addressed a press conference on the issue, urged President Muhammadu Buhari to fulfill his campaign promise on the road.
Community leaders, sectorian leaders, youth groups and market groups attended the briefing.
Also in attendance were traditionalists, indigenous groups, security chiefs, local government leaders, and representatives of various tribes in the area.
The groups maintained that the completion of the dual carriage road would, apart from saving lives, also aid both transportation and economic activities across the country.
