FSV Mainz defender, Leon Balogun, has allayed fears in some quarters that he might miss out on a place in Nigeria’s squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia by providing a positive update on Twitter about his rib injury, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Balogun, 29, has missed Mainz’s last two league games against Augsburg and Leipzig due to the injury.
He last featured for Mainz in their 2-0 win against Freiburg at the OPEL Arena on April 16.
Mainz manager, Sandro Shwarz stated on Thursday during his pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga clash against Borussia Dortmund that the defender had not been able to train fully with the rest of the squad.
But the centre-back has now assured he is on the track to attaining full fitness.
“Back on track , “reads a tweet on Balogun’s Twitter handle, with a picture of him in training at the bottom.
Balogun has made 14 appearances for the Mainz in the Bundesliga this season with no goal yet to his name.
He is poised to leave the club at the end of the season as he will become a free agent in June.
English Premier League club Huddersfield are set to be the favourite to secure his services.
