Super Eagles centre-back William Troost-Ekong has hailed his teammates for their battling display in the 1-0 win against Poland in their international friendly game on Friday and insists the team will get better after picking valuable lessons from the game, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.
Gernot Rohr’s men overcame the Poles courtesy of 61st minute penalty won and converted by Victor Moses.
The defender who put in a fine performance in the game further stated that they have picked some vital lessons from the game which will be vital for them in subsequent games.
“It was great to see that Brian Idowu at left-back and Francis Uzoho our goalkeeper made their full debut in the game,” Troost-Ekong who was part of Nigeria’s U-23 side that won bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games stated during a chat with media men after the game.
“It’s promising that we could organise the team and stopped them from scoring against us despite all the chances they created.
” We did well despite having a lot of young players in the team and not having our captain John Mikel Obi with us.
“We learnt a lot from the game and it will help on areas we need to improve on.”
Troost-Ekong who plays for Turkish Super Lig club Bursaspor captained the team in the game in the absence of John Mikel Obi and his assistant Ogenyi Onazi who started on the bench.
Next in line for Troost-Ekong and his teammates is the friendly international against Serbia on Tuesday.
