Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom
Irked by the recent and continuing killing of farmers and villagers in some parts of the country by killer herdsmen, the Tiv Youths Organisation (TYO) has called on all well-meaning Nigerians to speak up against the killer herdsmen’s activities before they destroy the country.
President of TYO, Timothy Hembaor, yesterday, maintained that the President’s non- condemnation of the killings and refusal to respond to critical issues raised before him during his recent visit by stakeholders is not good for the country and does not give hope to the victims and their families, as well as an indication of their intention to kill and take over Benue Valley and indeed every other part of Nigeria blessed with green vegetation.
Hembaor also slammed the lackadaisical attitude of the President on issues raised by Governor Ortom, such as the herdsmen killing of 73 farmers on January 1, this year, another killing of 63 people after the mass burial, the recent attack in Okpokwu Council, which claimed over 26 lives and the over 170,000 IDPs displaced from their ancestral homes, among others, as clear indication that he sees nothing wrong with herdsmen killing innocent citizens in Benue.
He expressed displeasure at the alleged disobedience of the President’s order to the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Idris Ibrahim, to relocate to Benue in the aftermath of the killings.
