By Adeboye Amosu: Six matches will be played in the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) on Sunday with particular focus on the Lafia Township stadium where surprise League leaders Lobi Star will be guests of Nasarawa United and in Kano where Pillars would aim to assume top spot should they defeat visiting Niger Tornadoes and Lobi stumble in Lafia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com
Four other games have been postponed due to the participation of champions Plateau United, MFM FC, Akwa United and six-time champions Enyimba in CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup.
Lobi Stars are unbeaten in their last four games and beat Heartland 1-0 in their last away fixture.
The game will be another opportunity for last season’s top scorer Anthony Okpotu to open his goal account for the season after firing blanks in his maiden appearance against Katsina United last weekend.
Kano Pillars, four-time champions of the league, whose eight games unbeaten streak was ended last Sunday by Yobe Desert Stars in a 2-0 defeat in Damaturu have a good opportunity to try for top spot.
The Sai Masu Gida struggled to make an impact in their last game in the absence of their talisman, Junior Lokosa who missed the match day 12 encounter due to diarrhoea and his return should help them get back to winning ways again.
New Sunshine Stars helmsman, Henry Abiodun will face his first real baptism of fire when Sunshine Stars entertain Yobe Desert Stars at the Akure Sports Complex.
Abiodun assumed the role on Wednesday following the dismissal of erstwhile handler of the side, Duke Udi for misconduct.
The Owena Waves have underperformed this season and need a positive result in this game to boost their survival hopes.
In Maiduguri, El-Kanemi Warriors and FC Ifeanyiubah, two teams who have struggled to get results in the NPFL this season will do battle, while Katsina United and Heartland will clash at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in Katsina.
In the last fixture for the weekend, Abia Warriors will face Wikki Tourists at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
