By David Meshioye: Poland Football Association (PFA) have assured that Europe’s present extreme cold weather will not stop the proposed March 23 international friendly with Nigeria, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
PFA spokesman Jakub Kwiatkowski exclusively told CSN that the FA is not unaware of inherent climate change threats but assured that measures have been put in place to ensure that the game goes ahead smoothly as planned.
A cold front is presently sweeping across Europe, forcing the postponement of league matches in several countries as temperatures dip below zero.
The March 23 tune-up game with Poland in Wroclaw is one of Super Eagles’ preparatory matches for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia but there have been fears among Nigeria Football Federation officials that recent change in Europe’s weather conditions could affect the friendly.
“Weather will change for sure and it can happen that it will be 15 degrees celsius by the time we play Nigeria in Wroclaw but you never know. Nigeria FA need not worry; it’s a modern stadium with heated pitch. Even now league games are played there,” Kwiatkowski exclusively told CSN.
Nigerian fans will pay 160 Polish Zloty (equivalent of N17,197.20) to buy a Category A ticket, while Category B and C tickets will cost N12,895.20 and N9,673.20 respectively. On the other hand, a child under the age of 12 years is going to pay 90 zB or N8, 593.20.
With this news the Nigerian embassy has started mobilizing the Super Eagles fans based in Poland to cheer the team. Nigerian fans are expected to be in the stands at the Municipal Stadium Wroclaw, which is the third largest stadium in Poland and has a capacity of approximately 42,000.
Super Eagles manager Gernot Rohr will on March 7 release the official list of players that will prosecute friendly clash against Poland and Serbia.
