Nigeria forward Victor Osimhen’s coach at Wolfsburg, Martin Schmidt, has resigned from the Bundesliga club.
Wolfsburg announced Schmidt’s resignation on their official website on Monday.
Schmidt’s resignation may be due to the team’s current poor run of form which has seen them lose their last three Bundesliga games.
They are currently 14th on 24 points in the 18-team league table, one point above the relegation zone.
Osimhen made nine league appearances under Schmidt this season.
A statement on Wolfsburg’s website reads: “Martin Schmidt has stepped down as VfL Wolfsburg head coach with immediate effect.”
“The Swiss tactician informed VfL managing director Dr. Tim Schumacher, sporting director Olaf Rebbe and the board of directors of his decision on Monday morning.
“Schmidt said he wanted to make way for the club to improve their current sporting situation by installing a new coach to bring fresh impetus to the side. Furthermore, he wished to relieve the increasing public pressure on the club and himself. Following intensive discussions, VfL ultimately accepted his resignation.
