By James Agberebi: Manchester City put behind them the disappointing draw against Burnley last weekend with a convincing 5-1 thrashing of Leicester City in the Premier League on Saturday.
Leicester star forward Riyad Mahrez made a return to Leicester squad as he was introduced in the second half after missing training for several days and his side’s last two league games in apparent protest of his failed move to Manchester City.
Four goals from Sergio Aguero and a strike from Raheem Sterling secured the emphatic win for City. Jamie Vardy got Leicester’s only goal.
Belgian star Kevin De Bruyne provided three assists for City in the win.
Super Eagles duo Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho were in action with Iheanacho coming off the bench.
City remain top of the table on 72 points while Manchester United are second on 56 points.
City took the lead in the third minute as Sterling converted Kevin De Bruyne’s cross at the far post after ghosting past Marc Albrighton.
Despite bossing the game, it was Leicester who drew level in the 23rd minute as Vardy capitalised on a mistake in the City defence to shoot past Ederson.
City went close to taking the lead five minutes later but Kasper Schmeichel made a double save, first denying Bernardo Silva before stopping Fernandinho’s goal-bound strike from the edge of the box.
With just four minutes into the second half, City went 2-1 ahead as Aguero finished off another assist from De Bruyne despite Schmeichel getting a hand to the ball.
Things got better and better for City as Aguero made it 3-1 on 53 minutes again from an assist from De Bruyne.
Leicester made a double substitution with Mahrez and Iheanacho coming on to try and salvage the game.
Iheanacho was applauded by City fans who recognised his contributions while playing for them last season and the season before.
But it was City who got on the score sheet again as Aguero completed his hat-trick in the 77th minute to bring the score to 4-1 as he pounced on a mistake by Schmeichel.
City were not done as Aguero grabbed his fourth goal and 21st of the season in the league, smashing his effort into the back of the net from 25 yards to make it 5-1.
