After the Joint Admissions and the Matriculations Board (JAMB) was the first examination body to successfully rake in over five billion naira as revenue, President of the Senate, Dr Bukola Saraki, has directed the Senate committees on Education to replicate same to other bodies.
The examination bodies include the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NEC0).
In his official twitter handle, @SPNigeria on Wednesday, Saraki compelled the Senate Committees on Education and Tertiary Institution and the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) to review the revenues generated by both WAEC and NECO.
Saraki’s directive comes after Senator Dino Melaye, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, raised a Point of Order on the revenue accrued by JAMB.
Explaining the reason for the action, the Senate President observed that it was necessary for the lawmakers to find out how JAMB was able to achieve its feat.
He is of the view that the success story should be applied to the other examination bodies so as to boost its financial status.
“The question is: what happened in the past and why the increase in revenue? What action has been taken against those people who were there before them? I think there is a need for us to not just sweep it under the carpet,” he said.
