By Johnny Edward: Former African Footballer of the Year, Emmanuel Amuneke, assumed duties as Al Khartoum Watani boss on Tuesday ahead of the forthcoming league campaign which kicks off in March, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports.
The former Nigeria international who arrived Khartoum last week put his players through their paces and also dished out tactical instruction in his first day at at the training ground.
“From what I saw in the first training today (Tuesday), I’m hopeful my players will adapt our new possession style of football. Knowing what to do with the ball and not losing the shape when you lose the ball. It’s going to be a collective job from the coaches to the players,” Amuneke told CSN.
“I am ready for the challeng, but collectively, we must work harder.”
Al Khartoum Watani will play their first test game on Saturday against a local football league side in Khartoum, although the kick-off time is yet to be confirmed.
“The game will enable me see how well they understand my philosophy of the game and to also correct some mistakes noticed,” Amuneke further told Completesportsnigeria.com.
Amuneke signed a two year contract with Al Khartoum Watani, and has been saddled with the responsibility of helping the team secure a continental club championship spot this year.
