By David Meshioye: Hibernian defender Ambrose Efe has lauded the Nigeria Football Federation’s move to secure more grade A friendly matches as part of Nigeria’s build-up towards the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Completesportsnigeria.com (CSN) reports. The NFF have confirmed two pre-World Cup friendlies for the Super Eagles against England and Poland while there are likely to be more.
In an exclusive chat with Completesportsnigeria.com over the weekend, the Nigerian star said he is optimistic that such matches will not only help knock the team into top shape, but most importantly open the coaches’ eyes to some grey areas within the team.
“I heard a series of grade A friendly matches have been lined up for Super Eagles. I believe it is the right step in the right direction,” Ambrose, who won the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations with the Super Eagles, told CSN.
“For me, those friendly matches help the coaching crew know the team’s strengths and weaknesses before the World Cup. It will also help the coach try his new tactics and discover areas that need more improvement.
“Playing top friendly matches also help build your confidence as a team right before the tournament begins. As you can see, the victory over Argentina in a friendly may not really give you the true balance of our team and that of the opponents, but in a way, it has developed players’ confidence. I won’t be surprised if Nigeria picks valuable points against Argentina when they meet in their last group match.
