Libya got their campaign in Nigeria’s group, Group C, in the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) off to a perfect start following their 3-0 win against Equatorial Guinea in Tangier on Monday.
A brace from Saleh Taher in the first half, and a late goal from Alharash secured the win for Libya who won the 2014 CHAN held in South Africa.
Libya deservedly took the lead on 12 minutes as Taher tapped a cross from the left in between the legs of Equatorial Guinea keeper Miguel Eyama and into the net.
Taher grabbed his second goal on 17 minutes as he headed the ball past a hapless Equatorial Guinea keeper following a brilliant cross from the right by Mohamed Aleyat.
Libya almost extended their lead on 24 minutes but Eyama made a superb one-handed save to deny Aleyat from range.
Pedro Oba had Equatorial Guinea’s best chance on 64 minutes after he found himself inside the Libyan box off a long but blasted his effort inches over the bar.
And in the 87th minute, Zakaria scored with a simple tap-in into an empty net after he was picked out by Aleyat.
Libya’s next game is against Nigeria on Friday while Equatorial Guinea will face Rwanda on the same day.
