Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has expressed satisfaction with his players’ fighting spirit after they fought back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 against Burnley in the Premier League at Old Trafford.
Burnley took a 2-0 first half lead through Ashley Barnes and Stephen Defour in the third and 36th minutes.
But Jesse Lingard, who was brought on in the second half, scored in the 53rd and 92nd minutes, to help rescue a point for United.
The draw left United in second place, 12 points behind leaders Manchester City who have a game in hand.
“We should have won, yes,” Mourinho posited in his post-match interview.”I take satisfaction by the way the team played, by the way the team reacted, to try to recover from 2-0 down. The boys they fought against the 2-0 at half-time, so nothing at all negative to say about my players. I praise their spirit, their reaction, the way they accept all the risks we took in the second half.”
Mourinho said he was surprised that United were 2-0 down at half-time.
