    18 years kingship vacuum: Community protests, seeks government’s mediation

    Some residents of Isheri-Oke Church in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) that included members of the Olofin Royal Family stormed the state House of Assembly and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s office yesterday, demanding the government’s intervention in the prolonged traditional stool tussle in the community.
    According to them, the seat has been vacant since the demise of the last king about 18 years ago with successive governments refusing to appoint and install a heir-apparent despite several appeals and petitions to both the executive and legislative.
    Barrister Lekan Odunsi, the spokesman of the group, led the protesters, who came with placards with various inscriptions expressing their thoughts on the issue. For hours, the protesters barricaded the entrance to the office of the governor and state House of Assembly.
