A thirty-seven-years-old man, Samson Bayonle, was yesterday arraigned at an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, for alleged theft of $64, 822, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).Bayonle is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.The Police Prosecutor, Inspector Wewe Adegbayi, told the court that the accused committed the offence with one person still at large on Nov. 6 in Lagos and Oyo states.
Adegbayi said that the accused collected the money from the complainant’s account through the Automated Teller Machine (ATM).“The accused modified his ATM card to dollar denominations and hacked into the complainant’s account in Unity Bank Plc.,’’ he said.
The police prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 287 and 323(2) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.Section 287 stipulates a three-year jail term for offenders.The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
