Five major telecommunication companies have been shortlisted as a potential buyer of 9mobile (formerly Etisalat Nigeria).According to reports in local media, these telecom companies have scaled through to the final phase of the bidding process. The Barclays bank of United Kingdom was appointed as the deal adviser to midwife the process. Based on insider knowledge, the inability of MTN Group, Eriksson, Dangote Group e.t.c to the US$100 million bank bond excluded them from the process.9Mobile (formerly Etisalat Nigeria) is the fourth largest telecom company in Nigeria. The telecom company took a $1.2 billion loans from a consortium of banks in 2013.
