Super Eagles: Nigeria lose 3-0 to Algeria after FIFA forfeit match as punishment for fielding ineligible player

It means that the Super Eagles finished Group B with 13 points from six games. World football governing body, FIFA have sanctioned the Super Eagles of Nigeria for fielding an ineligible player against Algeria in November and forfeit the game 3-0 to the North Africans. The Super Eagles of Nigeria in November played out a 1-1 draw away at Algeria in their last game of the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. FIFA however on Tuesday, December 12 announced that Nigeria fielded an ineligible player in Abdullahi Shehu who failed to serve an n automatic one-match suspension imposed on his as a result of two yellow cards during the 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign. The match has been declared to be forfeited and awarded 3-0 in favour of Algeria while the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) have been fined.“The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has been sanctioned for fielding an ineligible player in the match between Algeria and Nigeria on 10 November 2017,” FIFA said in a statement on their website.
