ECL Semi-Final: Rodgers Laments Ndidi’s Absence In Leicester’s Defeat To Roma

Rodgers Rues Ndidi’s Injury As Leicester City Battle Fulham At Craven Cottage

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has lamented the absence of Wilfred Ndidi, which he attributed as one of the reasons for their ouster in the Europa Conference League, reports.

Leicester lost 1-0 to Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma, in the semi-final second leg tie on Thursday night.

Roma advanced into the final on a 2-1 aggregate score, thanks to a Tammy Abraham first half goal.

Ndidi has been out of action since March which saw him miss the crucial playoff against Black Stars of Ghana.

And reflecting after the game, Rodgers told Leicester City TV:”Truly disappointed. Obviously it’s a great atmosphere, brilliant arena to play in which was fantastic. First half we weren’t so good with the ball, defending the corner, the corner has been Achilles heel for us all season to be perfectly honest, to concede the goal in that manner was disappointing.

“Second half we just decided to change it and we really imposed the game in the second half, got well into the final third just needed that little bit of luck and quality to break through.

“But I think overall there wasn’t too many big chances either side but unfortunately for us the corner was the one that counted for them. It has been an issue for us all season (corner), we clearly lack physicality.

“The courage is there for the players, clearly within the team, especially with Wilf  (Ndidi) missing we don’t have the physicality in the team, that has been a problem for us all season. We’ve tried man marking, we’ve tried zonal but it is too easy to score.

Rodgers added:”I am very proud. I think the last couple of seasons European football have opened their eyes, a lot have not experienced that before most especially this season, coming deep into European competition is great experience for them.”
