The army has intercepted and burnt down four trucks conveying smoked fish allegedly belonging to Boko Haram insurgents on the outskirt of Maiduguri, Borno State.
Theatre Commander of the Operation Lafiya Dole, Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi, who confirmed the report, said the insurgents are making money from the sale of fish.

He, therefore, stated that one of the military’s strategies is to cripple the insurgents’ economy, having discovered that they have been using proceeds from the sale of fish to sustain their activities.
The military and the Borno State government had banned fishing activities around the Lake Chad, based on the intelligence that the business has been hijacked by the insurgents.
