The Police command in Taraba state on Sunday recorded another success in its war against armed robbery and terrorism. It gunned down three armed robbers and injured many.
In a message to The Nation on WhatsApp, Taraba State Police commissioner, David Akinremi, stated that the robbers killed were a syndicate who mounted a roadblock in a village in Bali local government area of the state.
One of the criminals fell to bullets at the spot during a crossfire with police. Two reportedly died while trying to escape to a hospital.
The police chief stated: “Today (yesterday) at about 0930hrs, information was received that a gang of armed robbers were operating along Kwassa feeder road in Bali LGA.
“A team of policemen was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“On approaching the scene the team engaged the hoodlums and in the process gunned down one while two others sustained gun shot injuries and later died on the way to the hospital. Other members of the gang however escaped into the near by bush.”
Akinremi said, one locally made pistol with one live cartridge, one dane gun, a face mask, a knife and some charms were among the items recovered from the hoodlums.
“Intensive search is on going to apprehend others who escaped with gun shot injuries,” he added.
The police commissioner assured the public he was doing his best to crackdown on armed robbers and kidnappers terrorising in Taraba state and its environs.
