Impeached Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr David Oleyeloogun, addresses reporters in Akure on November 9, 2018.

The impeached Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly, Mr David Oleyeloogun, says he remains the authentic leader of the House.
Oleyeloogun stated this while addressing reporters on Friday at the Assembly complex in Akure, the state capital.
He also insisted that his deputy, Mr Iroju Ogundeji, is the valid Deputy Speaker of the House.
He stated this after 18 out of the 26 members of the House signed the notice for his impeachment and that of his deputy.
“What they did today is not impeachment; a quorum was not formed,” said Oleyeloogun.
“I still remain the Speaker of the Ondo State House of Assembly; Rt Honourable Iroju Ogundeji is still the Deputy Speaker. Nothing changes, no impeachment and I am giving you the assurance.”
The impeached speaker, however, blamed the incident on an internal crisis among the lawmakers, stressing that it would be resolved soon.
Earlier, Chairman of the House Committee on Information, Mr Fatai Olotu, explained the rationale behind the impeachment of Oleyeloogun and his deputy.
According to him, the lawmakers took the decision over allegations of corruption against the two principal officers.
The House had consequently elected Mr Olamide George as the new Speaker while Abimbola Fajolu was elected as the deputy.
