As Nigeria celebrates its 58th Independence anniversary tomorrow, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria (MCN), His Eminence Dr. Samuel Uche has enjoined Nigerians to show appreciation to God for keeping the country together.
The Bishop/Director of Missions, the African Church, Rt. Revd. Jeremiah Okunlola also urged political leaders to renew their commitments to nation building by having pay cut.
In his goodwill message to Nigerians, Uche said it is God’s grace that made it possible for the country to remain together.
While praying that Nigeria should make progress in every sphere of live, the Methodist Prelate urged Federal Government to ensure that there is security for everyone, as well as job for Nigerians, good roads, electricity, good healthcare, and qualitative education.
Okunlola described as unfair, where a chunk of Nigeria’s wealth is used to service political office holders at workers’ expense.
He said: “How do we explain the bogus salaries and allowances of political leaders compared to the N18, 000 minimum wage for workers? A cut in politicians’ pay to accommodate the newly proposed minimum wage stands for fairness and workers’ commitments.
“I call on our President to be sensitive to the plights of Nigerians by playing a fatherly role to all Nigerians, irrespective of their tribes and religion.
