Kebbi uncovers unqualified personnel at private hospitals, medicine stores’



Kebbi State Commissioner for Health and Chairman, Medical Task Force, Alhaji Umar Kambaza, has expressed dismay over the discovered of unqualified medical personnel working in the private hospitals and medicine stores across the state.
Fielding questions from newsmen in his office in Birnin Kebbi, yesterday, the commissioner adding that the committee, which commenced statewide tour last week, sanctioned proprietors of the private hospitals and medicine stores where the unqualified personnel were discovered.
He explained that the task force was not a fact-finding mission, but aimed at fishing out irregularities in the health sector to give the institutions the best.
Kambaza said the task force has so far has visited Yauri, Nagask, Shanga, as well as Zuru Emirate, where owners of the affected hospitals and medicine stores have been sanctioned and asked to report to his office for further action.
He said the task force also visited government-owned hospitals to ascertain the levels of the performance and know what the hospitals lack.
Kambaza assured the people of Governor Atiku Bagudu’s commitment to providing quality healthcare service to the state, saying at the end of the tour, report of findings would be submitted and changes made for their betterment.
Meanwhile, retired top civil servants in the state, under the aegis of Kebbi Development Forum (KDF) have attributed the slow pace of political growth in the state to poor leadership examples, occasioned by lack of accountability on the part of successive government.
Addressing newsmen in Birnin-Kebbi, yesterday, Secretary General of the group, Usman Abubakar, said the problem was aggravated by lack of strong opposition and elite complacency, cynicism, docility and failure to provide leadership to their communities and immediate environments.
Abubakar said the problem of leadership in the state over the years has been in the area of recruitment of leaders, adding: “We, therefore, condemned in very strong terms, any attempt by political parties to narrow the recruitment process into political offices by presenting charlatans and unscrupulous people.
