Argentina coach, Jorge Sampaoli, is hopeful that injured midfielder Lucas Biglia will recover in time to be part of the Albiceleste squad to the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia and will send team doctor, Daniel Martinez to monitor his progress.
Biglia faces a race against time to be fit for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia in June after he sustained a back injury while playing for AC Milan in Saturday’s Italian Serie A defeat at home to Benevento.
He suffered a slight lumbar fracture in his back and has been ruled out of action for at least six weeks.
According to a report in Argentine online news website, Tycsports, Martinez will closely follow the recovery process of Biglia with the target to see him return to action before May 15, when Sampaoli is expected to name the provisional 35-man squad for the World Cup
Martinez was also present during Sergio Aguero’s operation last week in Barcelona and his intention is to evaluate the extent of Biglia’s injury, whose treatment ranges from three to six weeks.
The Albiceleste are in Group D along with Nigeria, Croatia and debutants Iceland.
